Liz Tierney will enter her second season as an assistant coach with Bucknell swimming and diving in 2008-09 after working with several swimming programs at the club and Division III levels.

A 2003 graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh with a bachelor of science in psychology, Tierney served as an assistant coach at Irvine Novaquatics in Irvine, Calif., since 2005 and, in 2007, began working as an assistant coach at University High School, helping guide the women's squad to a second-place finish at the California high school championships in 2007.

"Liz brings an array of coaching experiences to Bucknell" said Bucknell head coach Dan Schinnerer. "She has worked both as a head coach at a D-III level and as an assistant at one of the top club programs in the country. She also has a strong background in sports psychology and team building, which will be a great benefit to the team. In addition, her time at the Irvine NOVAs has taught her creative and cutting edge training techniques."

Tierney, who is working towards her master's in kinesiology with an emphasis in sport psychology from Long Beach State, had served as head men's and women's swimming coach at Ripon College from 2003-04 prior to relocating to the West Coast. In her one season at the helm for the Red Hawks, she was named the 2003-04 Midwest Conference Men's Coach of the Year.

A letterwinner for the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh from 1999-2003, Tierney was a 12-time WIAC Conference finalist while competing for the Titans. She set school records in the 200-yard breastroke and the 200 butterfly and was named team captain and MVP in 2002-03.
