LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell University swimming & diving teams each picked up a Patriot League victory over Lafayette this afternoon in the Freas-Rooke Pool.

The women's team ran its record to 3-2 on the season by winning 12 of 16 events contested en route to a 182-113 victory over the previously unbeaten Leopards. On the men's side, the Bison evened their record at 2-2 after downing Lafayette 166.5-116.5.

Lafayette's women's team dropped to 4-1, while its men's squad dipped to 2-3.

Bucknell had a pair of triple winners on the women's team. Freshman Jackie Feinthel captured the 1,000 free (10:36.43), 200 fly (2:11.65) and the 500 free (5:10.85) while senior Abby Weaver came out on top in the 50 free (25.01), 100 free (54.50) and the 100 fly (1:01.33).

Contributing a pair of individual victories apiece were junior Darby Golino and freshman Jamie Flick. Golino placed first in both the 100 back (1:01.35) and the 200 back (2:12.72). Flick reestablished her own school record in winning the 200 breast (2:25.33) and just missed eclipsing her school record of 1:06.64 in winning the 100 breast (1:06.87).

Also picking up an individual victory for the women's team was sophomore Jennifer Cancro, who won the 200 free in 1:58.72. In addition, the 200 medley relay team of Golino, Flick, freshman Ashley Aiken and sophomore Megan Freese finished first in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:52.35.

For the men's team, sophomore Jack Sheehan was the only athlete to earn multiple victories. Sheehan won both the 200 back (2:00.83) and the 100 back (56.27). Other Bison placing first for the men's team were junior Kurt McCoy (1,000 free, 10:07.66), junior Stelios Saffos (100 breast, 59.95), freshman Adam Freeman (1 meter diving, 253.35), junior Stephen Schwanhausser (200 breast, 2:10.03) and junior Gonzalo Diaz (500 free, 4:54.41).

 

 

The men's team was also victorious in the 200 medley relay. Sheehan, Saffos, sophomore Adam Puff and sophomore Peter Garvin captured the event in a time of 1:38.20.

Both teams will return to action next Saturday in a dual meet against Patriot League opponent Colgate in the final meet ever at Freas-Rooke Pool. The meet kicks off with the diving events at 11 a.m.
