Bucknell Men's Swimming & Diving Suffers 141-100 Setback Against Columbia

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell men's swimming and diving team closed out the home portion of its 2007-08 schedule against Columbia of Friday evening in Kinney Natatorium and fell to the Lions, 141-100. Following the setback, the Bison are now 4-2 on the year, while Columbia pulls level at 3-3.

Junior Jeffrey Manning (Bringhurst, Ind./Carroll Jr./Sr. High) swept the diving portion of the meet, winning the one-meter competition with a score of 257.62, and taking first on the three-meter board, posting a personal-best mark of 279.97, which ranks second on Bucknell's all-time top-10 list.

Sophomore Luke Trafton (Bath, Maine/Morse) was victorious in the 200 free, reaching the wall in one minute, 44.01 seconds, and was the top finisher for the Bison in the 200 fly with a third-place time of 1:58.29.

Also recording an individual win for the Orange and Blue, sophomore Daniel Fletcher (Cedar Grove, N.J./Cedar Grove) logged the fastest time in the 200 back, clocking in at 1:54.34, and finished fourth in the 50 free with a time of 22.02.

Senior John Peterman (Conestoga, Pa./Penn Manor) was the runner-up in two events, posting a time of 21.44 in the 50 free and completing the 100 free in 46.87.

In the 1,000 free, sophomore Ben Leboza (Green Oaks, Ill./Libertyville) finished second (10:05.46) and junior Patrick Stummer (Fulton, N.Y./G. Ray Bodley) came in fourth (10:21.24). Leboza also scored in the 100 free, finishing fourth in 49.53.

Bucknell's final runner-up performance of the day came in the 500 free as sophomore David Iselin (Potomac, Md./Churchill) recorded a time of 4:48.70.

 

 

Rounding out the top individual finishes for the Orange and Blue, Grant Steadman (Richmond, Va./Collegiate) was third in the 50 free (22.00), senior Theo Leriotis (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional Senior High) took fourth in both the 200 IM (2:00.93) and the 500 free (4:52.51), freshman Michael Volpe (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) finished fourth in the 200 fly (2:00.16) and senior Bradford Bennett (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton Area) claimed fourth in the 200 breast (2:12.45).

In the 400 medley relay, junior Mark Kawczenski (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Hanover Area), Bennett, Volpe and Peterman, combined for a time of 3:28.37 to capture second in the event.

Bucknell continues its weekend action tomorrow, Saturday, Jan. 19, as the squad will travel to West Point, N.Y., to take on Army in a Patriot League dual meet, beginning at 1 p.m.
