Bucknell Swimming Squads Prep for League Championships at Navy Invitational

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - In their final competition before the Patriot League championships, members of the Bucknell men's and women's swimming squads took part in the Navy Invitational this Saturday afternoon. The Bison swam alongside individuals from Navy, American, Lafayette and Virginia in the non-scored meet. For Bucknell's men, sophomore David Iselin (Potomac, Md./Churchill) placed fourth in the 1,650 free, reaching the wall in 16 minutes, 44.00 seconds. Classmate Daniel Fletcher (Cedar Grove, N.J./Cedar Grove) finished fifth in the 100 back with a time of 53.50 and was ninth in the 100 fly (54.54). Sophomore Luke Trafton (Bath, Maine/Morse) swam the 100 fly in 53.40, good for sixth, and placed 11th in the 200 IM (1:59.59), coming in behind senior Bradford Bennett (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton Area) who was seventh with a time of 1:57.77. Senior John Peterman (Conestoga, Pa./Penn Manor) was the top Bison finisher in two events, placing sixth in the 50 free (21.50) and 11th in the 500 free (4:51.64). In the 100 breast, senior Grant Steadman (Richmond, Va./Collegiate) posted a time of 1:00.60 to take seventh. His classmate Theo Leriotis (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional Senior High) led the way for the Orange and Blue in the 400 IM as he claimed 10th in 4:15.71 and was 12th in the 500 free (4:51.82).
On the women's side, sophomore Courtney Warren (Montour Falls, N.Y./Watkins Glen) posted the best finish by a member of the Orange and Blue on the day, placing third in the 200 back with a time of two minutes, 10.56 seconds. In the 100 free, she claimed ninth, clocking in at 54.88.
Sophomore Megan Mongan (Malvern, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) led the Bison in the 500 IM, taking fifth in 5:13.12, while classmate Abigail Atkinson (Newtown, Conn./Newtown) took sixth in the 100 breast, reaching the wall in 1:10.14. Sophomore Sarah Pease (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin Senior High) was the top Bucknell finisher in two events as she was ninth in the 200 free (1:58.83) and 11th in the 50 free (25.80). She took sixth in the 500 free as well, recording a time of 5:17.69. In the 100 fly, junior Susan Horstmann (Havertown, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) led the Orange and Blue with a time of 1:01.22, good for sixth, while Mongan followed in seventh (1:01.26). Horstmann also posted the fastest time by a Bison in the 200 IM, placing 11th in 2:17.23. Freshmen Molly Goebel (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) and Macey Keath (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest) paced the Bison in one event apiece, Goebel was eighth in the 100 free (54.86) and Keath took ninth in the 400 IM (4:40.36). Bucknell will be idle until Thursday, Feb. 21, when the squads will return to Annapolis, Md., for the three-day Patriot League Championships. |
