Bucknell Men's Swimming Opens ECAC Championships Weekend with Long Course Invite
Feb. 23, 2012
ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Nine members of the Bucknell men's swimming and diving team began a second consecutive busy weekend Thursday at the ECAC Long Course Invite at Navy's Lejeune Hall. The unscored event was added to the beginning of the ECAC Championships this year to give swimmers an extra chance to qualify for the upcoming U.S. Olympic Trials. The Long Course Invite was conducted in long course meters, rather than the traditional yards that college teams typically swim. Unfortunately, no Bison reached an Olympic Trials qualifying time on Thursday to join teammates Matthew Segar (200 free), Erik Heinemann (200 fly) and Emily Norton (200 breast), who previously qualified for the Trials.
George Beatty, Thomas Brown, Gonzalo DeLeon, Nathaniel Frye, Billy Krause, Mike Nicholson, Ben Seketa, Eric Sokolosky and Christian Treat were the nine Bison who were in action Thursday, five days after helping Bucknell to its fourth second-place finish at the Patriot League Championships, which were also hosted by Navy. Each Bison swam in two events Thursday, one during the morning session and another during the evening session.
The three-day ECAC Championships will get underway Friday and run through Sunday. Student-athletes from both the Bison men's and women's teams will be competing at the event.
