Nov. 17, 2012
LEWISBURG, Pa. - One day after finishing third in the 200-yard IM, Bucknell junior Mike Nicholson won the 400 IM to lead the Bison men's swimming and diving team on the second day of the Bucknell Invitational Saturday at Kinney Natatorium. Bucknell is in third place in the team standings with one day left in the weekend meet. Nicholson easily won both the prelims and the finals of the 400 IM. He won the finals race by 4.72 seconds and the prelims by 4.50. His best time was 3 minutes, 55.09 seconds in the final. There were only three sub-4:00 times in the 400 IM all day and Nicholson had two of them. After Nicholson, Christian Treat had Bucknell's best individual finish Saturday as he touched the wall third in the 100 breast. He moved up three spots from his sixth-place finish in the prelims. Matt Hadley's fourth-place finish in the 200 free was Bucknell's top showing in that event. His time of 1:41.72 was just .33 seconds from 10th place on the Bison all-time list. He improved three spots from his seventh-place showing in the prelims. Erik Heinemann (10th in 100 fly) and Will Rappaport (12th in 100 back) were Bucknell's other top finishers in individual swimming events. Rappaport also posted a fifth-place showing in the 400 IM. His time of 4:03.19 ranks him sixth in program history. Freshman Patrick Alvermann was the team's top finisher in the three-meter diving competition as his score listed him eighth in both the prelims and finals. His prelims score of 234.20 ranked him on Bucknell's all-time top-10 list, but he bettered that in the finals (248.30) and is now listed sixth. The Bucknell Invitational will wrap up Sunday. Prelims are at 10 a.m. and finals are at 5 p.m.
