Bison Place Second at First Annual Bucknell Swimming Invitational

Lewisburg, Pa. --- The Bucknell men's and women's swimming teams placed second at the First Annual Bucknell Swimming Invitational held this weekend at the Freas Rooke Pool. The Bison men and women finished in second place behind Penn with 380 and 492 points, respectively. Bucknell set three pool records during the competition, all in relay events. The men's 200-yd freestyle relay consisting of junior Chris Neary (Philadelphia, Pa./Central), freshman Peter Garvin (Silver Springs, Md./Our Lady of Good Council), and senior tri-captains John Ferriter (Yorktown, Va./Hampton Roads Academy) and Jeff Sharpe (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) touched home in a time of 1:25.58 to rank ninth on the Bucknell all-time list in the event and set a pool mark. The women's 200-medley relay, consisting of freshman Meghan Freese (New Freedom, Pa./Susquehannock), sophomore Lauren Mosler (Palos Verdes, Calif./Palos Verdes), senior tri-captain Molly Lowe (Hamilton Square, N.J./Steinert), and junior Abby Weaver (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) won gold and set a Freas Pool mark in a time of 1:50.23, which ranks seventh on the school's all-time list. And finally, the women's 800-free relay featuring freshman Krisztina Poda (Bekescsaba, Hungary/Rozsa Ferene), sophomore Becky Dolan (Pine Forge, Pa./Boyertown), senior Megan Jones (Glendale, Calif./Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy) and Weaver set a pool record in a time of 8:01.83.
Four Bison captured individual events during the weekend, led by Weaver who won three events in addition to being a member of two of the aforementioned winning relays. She captured the 200-IM in a time of 2:11.43, and touched home first in both the 100- and 200-freestyles with times of 54.03 and 1:58.12, respectively. Sophomore Darby Golino (Milford, Conn./Our Lady of Academy) was a double-winner, capturing both the 100- and 200-backstrokes with times of 1:01.13 and 2:11.57, respectively.
On the men's side, Sharpe captured first-place in the 50-free with a time of 21.83, as the Bison finished 1-3-4-6 in the event. Sophomore Michael Guskey (Lexington, Kentucky/Tates Creek) touched the wall first to win the 100-breaststroke in a time of 59.70. The men's and women's swimming and diving teams will take a break for final exams, and then head to Florida for training at the Coral Springs Aquatic Complex in early January. |
