Dec. 5, 2009
***Sunday's finals will now begin at 5 p.m. instead of the originally scheduled 6 p.m.*** LEWISBURG, Pa. - Matthew Segar (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) finished second in the 200-yard freestyle and Bucknell posted six top-five finishes in individual events on Saturday during the second day of the three-day Bucknell Open. As a team, the Bison sit third in the standings, behind Princeton and Brown. The Tigers lead the competition with 1,171 points, while the Bears are second with 754. Bucknell sits third with 729. Columbia (728.5) and La Salle (697.5) are not far behind. Segar's time of 1 minute, 41.10 seconds helped the Bison dominate the "A" final in the 200 free as they claimed three of the top six spots. Christian Treat (Evergreeen, Colo./Clear Creek) was fifth in 1:42.14, while Daniel Fletcher (Cedar Grove, N.J./Cedar Grove) checked in sixth in 1:42.36. Fletcher had a solid day as he also took third in the 100 backstroke, finishing in 52.28. He was the lone Bison with a pair of top-six showings on the day. Jonathan Podniesinski (Melville, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills East) and Billy Krause (Huntington Bay, N.Y./St. Anthony's) helped Bucknell score more than 51 points in the 400 individual medley "A" final, finishing fourth and fifth, respectively. Podniesinski improved on his top finish from Friday (5th in 500 free) by one place. Eric Sokolosky (Branford, Conn./Branford), who posted a runner-up finish in the 50 free on Friday, finished fifth in the 100 butterfly. Teammate Taylor Harris (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Central) took 10th in the same event, but actually swam .04 seconds faster than Sokolosky since he was in the "B" final due to his morning prelim time. Scoring for the Bucknell Open is being done through 24 places with each individual event having an "A", "B" and "C" final. A total of eight events were contested Saturday and Princeton five. Columbia claimed two, while Brown totaled one first-place finish. The Bucknell Open will wrap up Sunday. The preliminaries will begin at 10 a.m., while the finals will take place at 5 p.m.
