Bucknell Men's Tennis Defeats UMBC 5-2
March 4, 2006 WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - Bucknell men's tennis defeated UMBC 5-2 on Saturday, March 4, at the West Branch Racquet Club in Williamsport, Pa. The defeat of UMBC brings the 2006 Bison record back up to the winning side, at 3-2. Bucknell collected the doubles point with wins from sophomore Ira Reibeisen (Armonk, N.J./Rye Country Day) and senior Asher Salam (Wallingford, Pa./Strath Haven) at the No. 1 position and sophomore John Lashnits (Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace Greely) and freshman Ryan Sandburg (Orange, Calif./Canyon) at the No. 2 spot. In singles play for the Orange and Blue, Reibeisen defeated David Jackson at No. 1, 6-4, 6-2, while Salam defeated Nick Savage-Pollock, at the No. 2 slot, 6-2, 7-6. Sandburg dominated over Mehrban Iranshad, 6-2, 6-4, in the No. 5, while classmate Jonathan Brenner (Manhasset, N.Y./Chaminade) won at No. 6 over Lief Hollowell, 6-2, 6-2. "We played our best match of the year," said assistant coach Steve Monge. "Everyone played very well from the first position to the sixth."
The men will return to action on Monday, March 13, against the College of Charleston while on the spring break trip to South Carolina. The match is set to begin at 1 p.m.
