Bucknell Men's Tennis Drops 7-0 Decision to Penn State

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. - The Bucknell men's tennis team concluded its play in Hilton Head Island, S.C., facing Pennsylvania neighbor Penn State on Wednesday, March 12, 2003. The Bison dropped a 7-0 decision to the Nittany Lions. At number one doubles, sophomores Nick Denefrio and Gerald DiChiara teamed up to face Roddy Cantey and Clint Keithly, falling 8-3 to the duo. Senior captain Todd Jacobs and freshman Asher Salam challenged Brad Nudell and Malcolm Scatliffe at the second flight, dropping an 8-1 decision, before sophomore Joe Menezes and freshman Aaron Saperstein were on the losing end of an 8-0 outcome at third doubles. In singles play, Salam managed to win four games in the first set against Cantey at number three, before Cantey went on to a 6-4, 6-1 win. Denefrio dropped a 6-3, 6-1 decision to Nate Emge at the first flight, while Jacobs lost in straight sets, 6-3, 6-0, to Mark Barry at number two. Menezes fell in defeat, 6-0, 6-3, to Scatliffe at the fourth flight, and DiChiara dropped a 6-0, 6-0 match to Keithly at number five. Saperstein rounded out the Bucknell six, falling 6-2, 6-1 to Todd Stecko at the sixth flight. Bucknell is 1-7 on the year. The Bison are off until Sunday, March 16, when they take on Delaware at 10:00 a.m.
