BU Men's Tennis Scores Pair of Convincing Wins

HILTON HEAD, S.C. - Bucknell's men's tennis team began its Spring Break trip to Hilton Head Island on a strong note, routing Georgetown (Ky.) College (6-1) and Wilmington (Ohio) College (7-0) on Tuesday. Georgetown defeated Bucknell at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles, and those marked the Orange and Blue's only losses in either match. In fact, the Bison dropped only one other set all day. Against Georgetown, Alex Davydov dropped the first set at No. 2 singles before rallying for a 6-7, 6-1, 6-1 victory. Joe Menezes, Todd Jacobs, Leland Tien and Scott Allen followed with straight-set victories. Mike Cunningham defeated Nick Denefrio at first singles for Georgetown's lone point. Bucknell earned the doubles point with wins from Denefrio/Davydov at No. 2 and Tien/Gerald DiChiara at No. 3. In the afternoon match against Wilmington, Bucknell dropped only eight games in nine matches. Denefrio, DiChiara and Allen all pitched 6-0, 6-0 shutouts in singles, and Bucknell did not yield a single game in doubles, winning all three 8-love. Now 3-0 this spring, Bucknell will next play Indiana-Purdue-Fort Wayne Thursday at noon in Hilton Head.
