Bucknell Men's Tennis Breaks Out of Slump with 6-1 Win at Mount St. Mary's

EMMITSBURG, Pa. - The Bison men's tennis team swept the doubles point, and took five of six singles matches, on its way to a 6-1 win over Mount St. Mary's on Thursday, April 3. The win snapped a seven match losing streak for the Bucknell squad. Sophomores Nick Denefrio and Gerald DiChiara set the tone at number one doubles, teaming up to defeat Andrew Arbeiter and Philip Holliday, 8-4. Senior Todd Jacobs and freshman Asher Salam followed suit with an 8-3 win over Bobby Cozzillio and Adam Lah, before freshmen Aaron Saperstein and Don Whaley picked up an 8-6 win against Jeff Lamberton and Paul Stuart at number three. Denefrio maintained the solid play into singles action, winning 6-3, 6-3, over Holliday at the first flight. Jacobs needed three sets, but came out on top of a 6-1, 6-7 (4), 6-3 decision over Arbeiter at number two. Salam earned a 6-3, 6-2 win against Lah at the third flight, and DiChiara, playing one spot higher than usual, defeated Cozzillio 7-6 (8-6), 6-2 at number four. Saperstein was Bucknell's other singles winner, earning a 2-6, 6-2, 10-2 victory at number five over Lamberton. The Orange and Blue improve to 2-13 overall. The Bison are in action again this weekend when they host Patriot League rival Army on Saturday and non-conference foe Towson on Sunday. Saturday's match is slated to begin at 12:00 p.m.
