Bucknell Men's Tennis Claims First Patriot League Victory over Lafayette, 5-2

EASTON, Pa. - The Bucknell men's tennis team (7-7, 1-3 PL) won for the first time this Patriot League season, handing Lafayette (9-5, 0-2 PL) a 5-2 defeat on the Leopards' home courts. Bucknell won the doubles point and claimed wins on courts three through six for the match victory. Nick Denefrio and Matt Pikus won 8-2 over Brett Warren and Craig Helstowski, 8-2 on court one, and Joe Menezes and Asher Salam beat Andrew Mott and Devin Murphy, 8-6 on court two. Lafayette's Pete Titus and John Zazzu defeated Bucknell's Gerald DiChiara and Aaron Saperstein, 9-8(5) at third doubles to prevent the sweep. Despite Mott's 6-4, 6-1 win over Denefrio at first singles and Warren's 6-2, 7-6(4) win over DiChiara on court two, the Bison won all four matches at third through sixth to seal the contest. Salam defeated Titus, 6-2, 7-6(4) at third, Menezes beat Zazzu, 6-2, 6-2 at fourth, Pikus knocked off Helstowski, 6-1, 6-4 at fifth, and Saperstein beat Murphy, 6-3, 6-2 at sixth. The Bison will have another Patriot League road match on Thursday at Lehigh at 3 p.m., and will not play again after that until an Apr. 14 match versus UMBC in Lewisburg.
