Bucknell Men's Tennis Suffers 7-0 Setback to UMBC

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell men's tennis team suffered a 7-0 loss at the hands of visiting UMBC in non-conference action on Monday, April 15. Freshmen Nick Denefrio and Joe Menezes were the only two Bison to win a set on the day, falling in three sets at No. 1 and No. 4, respectively. The Retrievers got things started on a strong note, winning all three doubles matches for the doubles point. The duo of senior Alex Davydov and Denefrio nearly picked up the victory at No. 1, eventually falling 8-6 to Josef Novotny and Eric Nudo. In singles play, it was all UMBC as the visitors claimed five of the six bouts in straight sets. Menezes pushed Dimitri Bordar to a third set at No. 4 before eventually succumbing to a 6-4, 6-7 (4), 1-3 decision. Denefrio lost on a super tiebreaker at No. 2, losing to Nudo by a count of 4-6, 6-3 (10-5). Freshman Gerald DiChiara nearly extended his match for the Orange and Blue, dropping a 6-7 (4), 3-6 decision to Chris Cetatearu at No. 5 for his first loss of the season at the fifth flight. Bucknell falls to 11-5 on the season and will be in action next when it hosts West Chester at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 16.
