Bison Men's Tennis Wins Big Over West Chester, 6-1

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell men's tennis team responded from a 7-0 loss at the hands of UMBC on Monday with a 6-1 defeat over visiting West Chester on Tuesday, April 16. The Bison won two of three doubles matches, and claimed five of the six singles bouts. In doubles play, freshmen Joe Menezes and Leland Tien teamed up at the second flight to claim an 8-5 victory over Joe Dianna and Dan Phipps. Senior Scott Allen and freshman Gerald DiChiara secured the Bucknell doubles point with an 8-2 win against Keith McCaffrey and John Considine at No. 3. In singles action, the Bison picked up the second through sixth flights on their way to the 6-1 victory. Every player won in straight sets, including freshman Nick Denefrio and junior Todd Jacobs, who surrendered just three games to their opponents. Denefrio won 6-3 over McCaffrey in the first set at No. 2, and then blanked the Golden Ram in the second set, 6-0. Jacobs defeated Phipps 6-1, 6-2 at No. 5 for the win. Bucknell improves to 12-5 overall and will be in action next on Thursday, April 18, when it closes out a five-game home stand hosting Mount St. Mary's for a 3:30 p.m. match.
