Bucknell Bounces Lehigh From Patriot League Tourney

HAMILTON, N.Y. - The Bucknell men's tennis team, seeded fourth in the Patriot League Tournament Championship, moved on to the second round with a 5-1 win over #5 Lehigh University on Saturday, April 21. The championship is being held on the campus of Colgate University on April 21-22. The two teams competed in doubles action first with Lehigh taking the point. The Bucknell duo of seniors Jeff Gould (Coram, N.Y./Newfield) and Aaron Webster (Houston, Texas/Bishop Miege) were the only winners in doubles action, defeating their opponents at the second flight, 8-5. In singles action, however, the Orange and Blue dominated by winning every match contested. Junior Alex Davydov (Middlebury, Vt./Middlebury) picked up a 6-3, 6-3 win at the first flight. Junior Scott Allen (Berwyn, Pa./Conestoga) was a 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 winner at the second flight, while sophomore Todd Jacobs (Wayne, Pa./Conestoga) defeated Ryan Cahn, 6-2, 7-5, at the third singles spot. At fourth singles, senior Hayes Hopple (Wilton, Conn./Saint Georges School) won 7-6, 6-2, before Webster rounded out the scoring with a 6-1, 6-2 win at the sixth flight. Junior Lee Scarborough (Wilmington, Del./A.I. Dupont) was winning, 6-1, 3-1, at the fifth flight but did not finish because the match had already been decided. Bucknell improves to 9-6 overall and will face top-seeded Army in the quarterfinals later today.
