Bucknell Men's Tennis Sees Success at Bloomsburg Invite
Sept. 13, 2009
BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – Bucknell men’s tennis finally got on the court Sunday after waiting through rainy weather at the Bloomsburg Invitational. Five of six Bison earned wins in singles competition in their first weekend of play in 2009. Freshman Kelly Morque (Rye, N.Y./Rye) started off his career in the Orange and Blue on a high note, going 2-1 on the weekend. Morque battled through three sets in his first match with Mary Washington’s Evan Goff. Goff was unable to hold serve in the first, giving Morque the 6-0 opening-set win. Goff bounced back to take the second 6-4 before Morque mounted a comeback of his own, winning 10-6 in the third. Morque also defeated Bloomsburg’s Jason Nolt in three sets later in the day. Unlike his earlier match, however, Morque came back after dropping the first set in a tiebreak. The second and third sets proved to be smoother sailing as the freshman finished the contest 6-7, 6-2, 10-6. Ryan Marcil (Vero Beach, Fla./St. Edward’s) and Josh Katten (Plainview, N.Y./Plainview JFK) also earned their first career wins at Bucknell. After falling in his first match, Marcil rebounded by defeating Niagara’s Joseph Zellic in easy fashion, 6-1, 6-0. Katten also recorded a convincing victory over his Purple Eagles opponent, finishing 6-1, 6-3 over Jordan Tedesco- Blair. Joining their younger teammate in the two-wins category were Gregg Cohenca (Purchase, N.Y./Rye Country Day School) and Clark Bogle (Hingham, Mass./Thayer Academy). The two sophomores also finished 2-1 with Cohenca taking victories over Mary Washington and Bloomsburg, and Bogle winning out over his opponents from Niagara and Bloomsburg.
The Bucknell men’s team is back in action Sept. 18-20 when it travels to Providence, R.I., for the Brown Invitational. BUCKNELL RESULTS |
