Bison Men's Tennis Concludes Play at Bucknell Invitational

LEWISBURG, Pa. - After two days of competition, the Bucknell men's tennis team wrapped up the 2004 Bucknell Invitational on Sunday at the Bucknell tennis courts. The team of Nick Denefrio and Asher Salam were the highest place finishers for the Bison taking second place in the flight A doubles bracket. Denefrio and Salam advanced to the final match of their bracket but came up short of the tournament title falling to Leo Rodriquez and Pedro Genovese of Marist, 8-5. Earlier in the day, the Bison duo picked up a win over Bloomsburg's Brian Bogus and Kyle Dougherty, 8-6. Salam also notched a victory in the A singles consolation bracket defeating Bogus of Bloomsburg, 8-5. Brian Cohen defeated teammate John Lashnits, 8-0, in the flight B consolation round to take ninth place in the tournament. Ben Young added another Bison victory besting Bloomsburg's Kevin Wenck, 8-3, in the C bracket consolations. The Bison won seven of nine first round matches on Saturday to kick off the weekend tournament. Denefrio and Ira Reibeisen advanced through the second round into the bracket semifinals. In the B bracket, Joe Menezes picked up two wins and made the semifinal match. The Bison had two entrants in the C flight semifinals in Garrett Neff and Matt Pikus who both notched two wins on Saturday. Picking up first round wins on the day were Salam, Pikus and Young. The team of Young and Cohen also won their first round matchup in the B flight doubles bracket.
The Bison men will be off until Thursday, Oct. 21, when they begin play at the ITA Regionals in Blacksburg, Va. The competition is set to run through Sunday, Oct. 24.
