Bucknell Men's Tennis Starts Play at Quinnipiac Invitational

The Bucknell men's tennis team opened play at the Quinnipiac Invitational in Hamden, Conn., on Friday, Oct. 10. In addition to the Bison and the host Bobcats, the three-day tournament features Connecticut, Fairfield, Sacred Heart and Bryant. All of the first day's matches were doubles, with singles play set to start on Saturday. Bucknell's Ryan Sandburg (Orange, Calif./Canyon) and Anton Kovic (Montreal, Quebec/Milton Academy (Mass.)) lost their opening "A" Doubles match to Connecticut's Joe Goldstein and Ben Schueler, 9-2 (2). They then fell in a consolation match to Garrett Lane and Charles Feldman of the Bobcats, 8-6. Zach Hascoe (Greenwich, Conn./Brunswick) and Mark Malloy (Bronxville, N.Y./Hackley) also competed in "A" Doubles for the Bison. The pair lost 8-2 to John Hughes and Brian Mikkelson of Quinnipiac, but won its consolation match, 8-5, against Cristian Balestrieri and Jose Rodriguez of Bryant. In "B" Doubles play, Bison senior Daniel Bednarek (Haworth, N.J./Bergen Catholic) paired with freshman Clark Bogle (Hingham, Mass./Thayer Academy) to defeat a duo from Fairfield. The pair had a first round bye and following its win will play in the semifinals tomorrow. Bucknell's Gregory Maxson (Mt. Pleasant, S.C./Hotchkiss) and Jamie Watson (Darien, Conn./Darien) lost to a team from Sacred Heart, 8-6, but won their consolation match against Dan Cournoyer and Andres Orobtig from Bryant.
Play resumes tomorrow in Hamden and will conclude on Sunday, Oct. 12.
