BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Bucknell men's tennis team completed the first day of competition at the Patriot League Individual Flighted Tournament, held at Lehigh on Saturday and Sunday, October 12-13, 2002.

In singles play, freshman Asher Salam was Bucknell's lone winner in the opening round, taking a 6-4, 6-4 decision over Ryan Collins of Lafayette at the fifth flight. Senior Todd Jacobs fought hard at number four, coming up just short against Lafayette's Dan Seward, 7-5, 3-6, 10-8.

In doubles action, the duo of Salam and sophomore Gerald DiChiara teamed up to defeat Lehigh's Shapiro and Jon Swanson, 8-4, in the first round of the third flight. The tandem fell, 8-5, in semifinal action against Jarrett Skrobarcek and Carl Fisher of Army.

Play continues on Sunday, October 12, 2002.
