Orange and Blue Men's Tennis Team Wins Two Matches On Homecoming Weekend
Oct. 20, 2001
LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell men's tennis team had a successful Homecoming Saturday, defeating both St. Francis (Pa.) and Niagara, 6-1, to improve to 3-0 on the fall season. Against St. Francis (Pa.), Bucknell swept the doubles matches to win the doubles point. In singles play, the Orange and Blue took all but one match to win the singles portion, 5-1 and come away with the 6-1 victory. It was much the same story with the Niagara match as the Bison captured the doubles point by winning all three matches. Senior Alex Davydov (Middlebury, Vt./Middlebury) and freshman Nick Denefrio (Schenectady, N.Y./Niskayuna) teamed up at first doubles to win 8-6, while freshmen Leland Tien (State College, Pa./State College) and Joe Menezes (Staten Island, N.Y./Polytech Prep Country Day School) took an 8-5 win at third doubles. Senior Scott Allen (Berwyn, Pa./Conestoga) and junior Todd Jacobs (Wayne, Pa./Conestoga) had the toughest time with their Purple Eagle opponents, coming away with a 9-8 (5) win at the second slot. In singles action, the second through sixth flights were all victorious. The Bison are in action again on October 26-30 at the ITA Regionals at Princeton, N.J.
