Bob Schanbacher enters his 19th season working with the Bison throwers. This is his 11th season back with the Bucknell coaching staff after taking a three-year sabbatical from the program. His first stint with the Bison lasted eight seasons, from 1988-1996. During that time, his athletes captured most of the school records in the men's and women's throwing events. Schanbacher is responsible for shaping the reputation and tradition of success in the throwing events at Bucknell University. He has coached 58 individual conference champions, athletes who have set 37 school records, a number of ECAC/IC4A scorers as well as an NCAA All-American in the hammer throw (James Heizman). He also coached Maria Garcia to the NCAA outdoor championships in the hammer throw in 2004 and had athletes post 12 NCAA Regional qualifying performances in the last three seasons. In his 18 years as a member of the Bison coaching staff, Schanbacher has helped coach Bucknell to 29 East Coast Conference and Patriot League Championships. A 1973 graduate of East Stroudsburg University and the recipient of a master's degree from Wisconsin-La Crosse, Schanbacher has been the head coach of track and field at Lewisburg High School since 1973 and was the head coach of cross country from 1980-1987. He led teams to 14 conference championships including the West Branch Conference, Susquehanna Valley Conference (AA) and two District 4 AA titles. Schanbacher is also a USATF Level II certified coach. Schanbacher resides in Cogan Station with his wife Kathleen. They have two children, a daughter and a son, Amy and Chris. | |||||||||||||||
