Bucknell Men's Track and Field Finishes Day One at Bison Open and Multi

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell men's track and field team closed out the first day of competition at the Bison Open and Multi on Friday evening.

Sophomore Timothy Medlock (Evan Mills, N.Y./Indian River) led the Bison in the shot put. He threw an IC4A-qualifying distance of 51-11 ¾ for second place. Medlock had already qualified for IC4A's in the event with his throw of 52-3 ¾ at the Bucknell Heptagonal, which placed him second on Bucknell's all-time list for the event.

The Bison distance medley relay team of freshmen Clayton Smith (Sparta N.J./Pope John XXIII), John Quezada (South Hamilton, Mass./St. John's Preparatory), Evan Novakowski (Duxbury, Mass./Duxbury), and Christopher Boyd (Gaithersburg, Md./Thomas S. Whooton) notched a second-place finish with a time of 10:31.81.

In the final for the 60-meter hurdles, sophomore Sean Coyne (Freehold, N.J./Freehold Township) led the Bison with a seventh-place finish in 8.74. Sophomore Gregory Baxter (Binghamton, N.Y./Chenango Valley) was the top finisher for Bucknell in the 200-meter dash. He took eighth with a time of 23.22. Sophomore Matt Schelburg (Baltimore, Md./Loyola Blakefield) finished 19th in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 15:58.28.

Bucknell had three athletes compete In the first day of the heptathlon, freshman Drew Fitzgerald (Ballston Spa, Pa./Ballston Spa) and sophomores Ryan White (Elkins Park, Pa./Father Judge) and Thomas Vogler (Oneonta, N.Y./Oneonta). After four events Fitzgerald is in second place (2,600), White follows in third (2,485) and Vogler currently sits in sixth (2,420).

 

 

Fitzgerald clocked a time of 6.87 in the 55-meter dash (fourth, 760), and posted marks of 20-4 ¼ in the long jump (second, 630), 29-11 ½ in the shot put (ninth, 434) and 6-5 ½ in the high jump (first, 776). White ran a time of 6.85 in the 55-meter dash (second, 767) and posted marks of 19-3 ½ in the long jump (fifth, 559), 34-5 in the shot put (fourth, 515) and 5-11 ½ in the high jump (fourth, 644). Vogler went 7.04 in the 55-meter dash (sixth, 701), 20-1 ½ in the long jump (third, 615), 34-2 ¼ in the shot put (sixth, 511) and 5-9 ¼ in the high jump (sixth, 593).

Day Two of the Bison Open and Multi will take place Saturday with field events starting at 10 a.m. and running events beginning at 11 a.m.
