Bucknell Men's Track Finishes Strong at Bison Open & Multi, Penn State Invite

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell men’s track and field closed out competition at the Bison Open & Multi as well as the Penn State National Invite on Saturday. Among the Bison’s leaders at both meets were heptathletes Ryan White (Elkins Park, Pa./Father Judge), who finished third at Penn State, and Andrew Powell (Charlton, Mass./St. John’s), who took fourth at Bucknell’s home meet. White won the pole vault portion of the heptathlon, going one foot better than the next best placer at 14 feet, 7 1/4 inches. The senior finished toward the front of the pack in many of the other events, to give himself 4,804 points, the bronze medal and an IC4A-qualifying mark. Powell also took home a single-event victory in the heptathlon, winning the long jump with a distance of 21-6. Like his teammate at the other meet, Powell ‘s steady performance over the last two days put him among the top four with 4,454 points. Other noteworthy performances at the Bison Open & Multi include a handful of top-five finishes. Nicholas Hruch (Sykesville, Md./Liberty) and Jeff Madrak (Dimock, Pa./Elk Lake) placed second and fourth, respectively, in the high jump. Hruch led the duo with a clearance of 6-4 1/4. Thomas McGarrigle (Malvern, Pa./Malvern Prep) was fourth in the 60-meter dash (7.21 seconds), and Robert Yamnicky (Shelton, Conn./Shelton) was fifth in the 3,000 meters (8:52.84).
Several Bison were competing alongside White at Penn State and succeeding as well. Evan Novakowski (Duxbury, Mass./Duxbury) claimed a fourth-place finish in the 1,000 with a time of 2:31.72. Teammate Kyle Ramer (Landisville, Pa./Hempfield) competed in the invitational 1,000, finishing sixth in 2:27.46. On the field event side, Kyle Anthony (Barryville, N.Y./Eldred Central) saw his four-meet winning streak in the triple jump come to an end as he took ninth place. While his mark of 48-7 1/4 did not earn him the victory, it did give him yet another meet in which he surpassed the IC4A-qualifying standard. Bucknell will take a week off before returning to action for the Bucknell Winter Classic on Saturday, Feb. 13. The meet at Gerhard Fieldhouse will be the Bison’s final tune-up heading into the Patriot League Championships.
