Bucknell Track and Field Opens Up Sykes-Sabock Cup Challenge with Solid Performances
Feb. 6, 2009 ResultsUNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Day one of the Sykes-Sabock Cup Challenge, hosted by Penn State at the Horace Ashenfelter III Track on Friday, brought forth solid performances by the Bucknell men's and women's track and field teams. Junior Kyle Anthony (Barryville, N.Y./Eldred Central) led the way with an IC4A-qualifying leap and season-best in the long jump. He cleared 23 feet, 0 ¾ inches to land himself a spot at the IC4A Championships on Mar. 7 in Boston, Mass. Anthony narrowly passed the qualifying mark by ¼ of an inch. In the 60-meter hurdles, junior Andrew Yehl (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown) won his qualifying round with a time of 8.20 seconds to reset his school record. In the finals, Yehl ran a personal-best time of 8.16 to place third overall to again better his mark. On the women's side, junior Chelsey Musante (Shelton, Conn./Shelton) and sophomore Rebecca Frey (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) continued to lead the Bison in the field events. Frey improved on her ECAC-qualifying mark with a leap of 12-1 ½ in the pole vault to place sixth. Musante threw over 50 feet in the weight throw for the sixth time this year with a toss of 54-3 ¼ to place sixth as well. "We had some people who rose to the occasion today.
