Bucknell Men's Track and Field Opens Competition At PL Indoor Championships

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell men's track and field team wrapped up the first day of the 2008 Patriot League Championships at Gerhard Fieldhouse on Friday afternoon, completing the first four events in the heptathlon. Army's Brandon Lewis currently leads the scoring, compiling 2,945 points after four events. Sophomore Ryan White (Elkins Park, Pa./Father Judge) paces the Bison, standing in fourth with 2,755 points. To start out the day, Lewis stopped the clock at 7.19 seconds (816 points) to post the top finish in the heptathlon 60-meter dash and take the lead after the first event. White led the Bison in the 60-meter dash; he placed fourth with a time of 7.29 (782) while sophomore Thomas Vogler (Oneonta, N.Y./Oneonta) finished in eighth with a time of 7.59 (684). Navy's Ronald Belany took the lead after the second event, posting the furthest distance in the heptathlon long jump (23-10; 876). White recorded a top finish for the Bison, finishing fifth with a distance of 20-11 ¾ (673) to remain in fourth place overall. Vogler finished in sixth (20-4 ½; 632) to move into seventh overall. After the third event, Lewis regained the lead with a first-place finish in the heptathlon shot put. He threw a distance of 39-7 ¼ (611). White moved into third place overall after taking second in the event with a season-best distance of 37-9 1/2 (577). Vogler also recorded a season-best distance in the shot put and placed fourth (36-7; 555) to remain in seventh overall. At the conclusion of day one, Lewis remained in the front after tying for second in the heptathlon high jump (6-3 ¼; 723), while Navy's William Stillman posted the top mark in the event (6-4 ¼; 749). White tied Lewis for second in the high jump with his season-best mark (6-3 ¼; 723), but dropped to fourth overall. Vogler tied his season-best mark of 5-9 ¼ (593) to finish fifth and moved into sixth place overall with a point total of 2,464 after four events.
The 2008 Patriot League Championships will resume Saturday and run through Sunday afternoon, Feb. 24. Saturday's events will start with the conclusion of the men's heptathlon at 8:45 a.m. Field events will follow at 11 a.m., and running events are set to begin at 1 p.m. |
