Colonial Relays Conclude with Big Bison Performances

Williamsburg, Va. - Bucknell track and field finished competing at the Colonial Relays, hosted by William and Mary, Saturday, and finished strong while producing four IC4A-qualifying marks and two ECAC-qualifying marks. The men placed third and the women placed fifth. Sophomore Nicholas Hruch (Sykesville, Md./Liberty) highlighted the final day with his victory in the high jump with an IC4A-qualifying performance. Hruch cleared 6 feet, 8 ¼ inches for the win. Sophomore Drew Fitzgerald (Ballston Spa, Pa./Ballston Spa) also qualified for the IC4A meet, placing third with the same height. Junior Kyle Anthony (Barryville, N.Y./Eldred Central) took second in the triple jump, getting an IC4A mark himself and jumping farther than 48 feet for the first time this outdoor season (48-0 ¾ ) . For the men in the relays, Bucknell grabbed a third-place finish in the 110 shuttle hurdles relay, with a team of junior Andrew Yehl (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown) and freshmen Dan Mularz (Manalapan, N.J./Freehold Township), Andrew Powell (Charlton, Mass./St. John's) and Robert Arent. The team finished in 1 minute, 1.01 seconds. In the 4x1500 relay, juniors Kyle Ramer (Landisville, Pa./Hempfield), Conor McNamara (Baldwin, N.Y./Chaminade), Andrew Huebner (Hampton Falls, N.H./Governor Dummer Academy) and sophomore Christopher Boyd (Gaithersburg, Md./Thomas S. Whooton) teamed up to run 16:12.41 for a fourth-place finish.
For the women, the Bison grabbed another ECAC qualifier with a big hammer throw by junior Chelsey Musante. Musante moved up to ninth on Bucknell's all-time performance list with a heave of 162-6 to qualify for the late-season championship meet. Competing in three throwing events in one day, Musante was busy, placing third in the discus throw, throwing 135-3 and placing sixth in the shot put, where she threw 43-10 for fourth on Bucknell's all-time performance list. In the relays, the Bison blazed to a second-place finish in the 4x1500 relay, running 18:49.23, with a team of senior Jessica Hibbert (Woodbine, Md./Glenelg), freshman Alysha Hooper (Meaford, Ontario/St. Mary's), senior Ashley Behre (Flanders, N.J./Mount Olive) and freshman Kara Weichler (Pittsburgh, Pa./Plum). Bucknell also took second in the 4x100-meter shuttle hurdle relay, clocking in at 1:04.38 with a team consisting of sophomore Jamie Leacock (Howell, N.J./Howell), junior Amy Mantush (Drums, Pa./Hazleton), senior Rebbeca Eppleman (Chester Springs, Pa./Great Valley) and freshman Taylor Funk(Mount Pleasant, Pa./Mt. Pleasant Area). The Bison team that took seventh in the 4x200 meter relay also earned the second spot on Bucknell's all-time performance list with its 1:43.54 time. The team consisted of juniors Stephanie Evans (York, Pa./Central York), Kalle James-Wintjen (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg Area) and Kristin Steele (Shiremanstown, Pa./Trinity) and freshman Christina Muccio (Andover, Mass./Andover). Next up for Bucknell track and field will be the Bison Outdoor Classic, starting at noon on Friday, April 10, at their home track at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium. |
