Frake Breaks Bucknell Hammer Top-10 List, Grap Wins Shot Put at Cornell Invite

ITHACA, N.Y. - Six Bucknell throwers got another round of practice in before the Patriot League Championships next weekend at Army, with four women and two men taking part in both hammer and shot put competitions at Cornell's Big Red Invitational on Sunday. Marjorie Grap, Laura Schaffer, Angie McFarland and Hannah Irion competed for the women. Grap won the shot put competition with a toss of 42'2 ¼", beating Hartwick's Renata Williams by 5 ¾". Schaffer finished fourth, throwing 38'9 ¾", McFarland ninth at 35'6 ½", and Irion 15th at 30' ¼". In the men's shot, Dan Frake threw a sixth-place 44'1 ½", while Nick DeGregorio landed in ninth with a toss of 39'3 ¾". Frake was just the second person to alter the Bucknell top-10 lists on the men's side during the outdoor season, following Josh Kaehler's top-10 javelin toss at Virginia Commonwealth to start the outdoor year. Frake finished fifth, but had the eighth-best throw in Bucknell history of 162'10". DeGregorio took 15th with a 124'1" toss. McFarland was Bucknell's top finisher in the women's hammer, landing in third place by tossing 153'9". Right behind was Grap in fourth (147'1") and Schaffer in fifth (143'4"). Irion finished 16th, throwing 93'11".
The Patriot League Championships will take place on Friday and Saturday in West Point, N.Y.
