Bison Men's Track and Field Takes Early Lead at Patriot League Championships

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Bucknell men's track and field team leads the 2007 Patriot League Championships with a total of 59 points after the first day of competition. Army (48) and Navy (22) round out the top three, while Lehigh (20), American (16), Holy Cross (12), Colgate (6) and Lafayette (3) currently sits fourth thru eighth, respectively. The Bison tallied four gold and two silver medals in the opening day of the meet. Due to a timing malfunction, the marks for the sprinting and distance events will be unofficial until further notice. Seniors Joshua Kaehler (Hanover, Pa./Hanover), Tyler Hoffman (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg), David Mante (Warwick, N.Y./Warwick Valley) and Matthew Forys (Howell, N.J./Howell) posted first-place victories in their respective events. Kaehler won his second straight gold medal with a throw for a distance of 230 feet-6 inches (70.27m) in the javelin, which is an NCAA East Regional and IC4A qualifying mark. His distance was also a new Bucknell and Patriot League meet record. Hoffman won his event in the hammer throw with a mark of 206-2 (67.84m), which ranks him second all-time. His mark also qualified him for the NCAA Regional and IC4A Championships. Mante collected his first career outdoor medal after clearing a height of 16-0 ¾ (4.90m). His distance earned him a spot in the IC4A Championships. Forys, who has already qualified for three IC4A Championship events, added the 10,000-meter run to the list after his first-place performance.
Also scoring in the meet, junior Wallace Campbell (Montgomery, Ala./Montgomery) finished second in the 10,000. In the long jump, freshman Kyle Anthony (Barryville, N.Y./Eldred Academy) placed second with a distance of 23-2 (7.06m). Freshman Jason Inzana (Birdsboro, Pa./Daniel Boone) notched a sixth-place showing in the pole vault with a height of 14-7 ¼ (4.45m), while junior James Meyer (Pacific Palisades, Calif./Pacific Palisades) placed sixth in the hammer with a mark of 166-8 (50.80m).
In the decathlon, freshman Ryan White (Elkins Park, Pa./Father Judge) sits in third place with 3,390 points after five events. Sophomore Kevin Macleod (East Longmeadow, Mass./East Longmeadow) and freshman Andrew Yehl (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown) qualified for the finals in the 110 hurdles. MacLeod will also appear in the 100 finals. Sophomore Kerry Boyle (Hazleton, Pa./Hazleton) qualified for the 200 finals after finishing first in his heat. The final day of the 2007 Patriot League Track and Field Championships will begin on Saturday, May 5, at 9 a.m. with the men's decathlon 110 hurdles. |
