Bucknell Men's Indoor Track and Field Team Participates in Bison Opener

LEWISBURG, Pa - Freshman Kyle Anthony (Barryville, N.Y./Eldred Central) took home first-place victories in both the long jump and the triple jump as the Bucknell men's indoor track and field team competed in the Bison Opener on Saturday at Gerhard Fieldhouse. Anthony jumped a distance of 23 feet, 11 ½ inches (7.30 m) in the long jump and posted a distance of 48-10 ¾ (14.90m), which qualified him for the IC4A Championships in both events. He is now fourth all-time in Bucknell history in the long jump and second all-time in the triple jump. The freshman also finished ninth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.28 seconds. Competing in the non-scored meet with the Bison were Howard, Indiana University (Pa.), Kutztown, Lock Haven, Loyola (Md.), Morgan State, Shippensburg, Saint Francis (Pa.) Susquehanna, UMBC, and Ursinus. Along with Anthony, the Bison had a number of athletes that made it into the top-10 list. Senior Tyler Hoffman (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg) threw for a distance of 60-6 (18.44m) in the weight throw, which was a personal best and ranks him second all-time. The distance also qualified Hoffman for the IC4A Championships. In the 800, junior Brian Mooney (Rochester, N.Y./Gates-Chili) finished second with a time of 1:54.62, which also qualified him for the IC4A Championships. In the 5000, junior Wallace Campbell (Montgomery, Al./Montgomery Academy) posted a time 15:02.96, which won him the event. Junior Matthew Johnson (Newburgh, N.Y./Marlboro Central) finished ninth in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.14 seconds, which was a personal best and ranks him second all-time.
In the 60-meter hurdles, freshmen Sean Coyne (Freehold, N.J./Freehold Township) and Andrew Yehl (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown) and senior John MacFeeters (Haddon Field, N.J./Haddon Field Memorial) finished 7th, 13th and 14th, respectively. Coyne posted a time of 8.57, which ranks him third all-time, Yehl crossed the line with a time of 8.74, which was good for eighth all-time, while MacFeeters finished with a time of 8.75, listing him ninth at Bucknell. Bucknell had eight athletes finish in the top five led by sophomores Kerry Boyle (Hazleton, Pa./Hazleton) and Kevin Macleod (East Longmeadow, Mass./East Longmeadow) who finished first and second in the 300, with times of 34.86 and 35.48, respectively. Senior teammate Matthew Bonelli (Califon, N.J./Pingry School) finished fourth with a time of 36.03. Junior James Redmond (Medfod, N.J./Bishop Eustace Prep) finished second in the 500 with a time of 2:38.70, while freshman Zachariah El Manakhly (Lagrangeville, N.Y./Arlington) cleared a third-place finish in the 3,000 with a time of 9:25.98. In the one-mile run, senior Adam Syty (East Amherst, N.Y./Clarence) posted a time of 4:30.14, which was good for second place. In the 4x400, the team of Boyle, Bonelli, MacLeod and senior Eric Guja (Massapequa, N.Y./St. Anthony's) finished third with a time of 3:32.64, behind Morgan State and Howard. In the pole vault, junior David Mante (Warwick, N.Y./Warwick Valley) posted a height of 14-9 (4.50m), which was good for third place. The Bucknell men's indoor track and field team will next compete in the Gulden Relays in the Gerhard Fieldhouse on Saturday, Jan. 13. |
