Bucknell Heptagonal Meet Program
LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell men's and women's track and field teams will host the Bucknell Heptagonal as the second of three consecutive home meets, this Saturday, Jan. 19. Field events are scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. and running events are set to start at 12 p.m. in Gerhard Fieldhouse.
The Bison will welcome six visiting teams on the women's side (Saint Francis (Pa.), Lehigh, Shippensburg, Duquesne, East Stroudsburg and Towson) and five visiting teams on the men's side (Saint Francis (Pa.), Lehigh, Shippensburg, Duquesne and East Stroudsburg).
"The Heptagonal is our only scored meet of the indoor season besides the Patriot League Championships," said Bucknell head coach Kevin Donner, "Of course our goal will be to win both meets however we expect the competition to be fierce and everyone will have to earn every point."
Bison Men's Track and Field Notebook
At the Gulden Relays on Jan. 12
- Sophomore Kyle Anthony (Barryville, N.Y./Eldred Central), the Field Most Valuable Athlete in the meet, won the triple jump with a distance of 48-0, an IC4A-qualifying standard. Anthony had already qualified for IC4A's with his mark of 48-3/4 posted at the Bison Opener on Dec. 1.
- Sophomore Timothy Medlock (Evan Mills, N.Y./Indian River) took second in the shot put with an IC4A-qualifying distance of 51-4 ½. Medlock had already qualified for IC4A's with his throw of 52-2 at the Bison Opener.
- The Bison distance medley relay team of sophomore Kyle Ramer (Landisville, Pa./Hempfield), freshman John Picardo (Rochester, N.Y./Hilton Central), senior Brian Mooney (Rochester, NY/Gates-Chili) and senior Wallace Campbell (Montgomery, Ala./Montgomery Acad.) placed first with an IC4A-qualifying time of 10:14.89.
- Bucknell took the top-three places in the weight throw. Senior James Meyer (Pac. Palisades, Calif./Pacific Palisades) finished first with a distance of 51-7 ¼ while Medlock and sophomore Jonathan Lockhart finished in second (45-10 ¾) and third (45-3 ½), respectively.
- The Bucknell 4x800 relay team comprised of sophomore Andrew Huebner (Hampton Falls, N.H./Governor Dummer Academy), freshman Evan Novakowski (Duxbury, Mass./Duxbury), sophomore Conor McNamara (Baldwin, N.Y./Chaminade) and freshman John Picardo (Rochester, N.Y./Hilton Central) won the event in 8:01.92.
- The Bucknell 4x400 relay team of sophomore Clement Gyan (Yonlers, N.Y./Abraham Lincoln), Anthony, freshman Guy Castranova (Trenton, N.J./Notre Dame) and junior Kerry Boyle (Hazleton, Pa./Hazleton) took second with a time of 3:20.21 to tie the 10th-fastest time in Bucknell history.
- In the 60-meter hurdles, sophomore Andrew Yehl (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown) ran a time of 8.46 (the third-fastest finish all-time for Bucknell) to finish third. Sophomore Ryan White (Elkins Park, Pa./Father Judge) followed in fifth with a time of 8.69 to place himself eighth on Bucknell's all-time top-10 list for the event. Additionally, sophomore Sean Coyne (Freehold, N.J./Freehold Township) tied for ninth on Bucknell's all-time top-10 list for the event, clocking a time of 8.78 for eighth place.

In the Rankings
- The Bucknell men's track and field team was picked third in the Patriot League's preseason poll, announced Dec. 6. The Bison tallied 70 points to place third, following Army (10 first-place votes) and Navy (six first-place votes), who tied for first with 90 points. Rounding out the list was American in fourth (64 points), Lehigh in fifth (47 points), Lafayette in sixth (43 points), Colgate in seventh (28 points) and Holy Cross in eighth (16 points). The Bison men will look capture their first indoor league title since 2003, returning Anthony, the 2007 Patriot League Championship Rookie of the Meet and a First-Team All-Patriot League performer last season.
2007-08 Honors
- Macleod was named Patriot League Track Athlete of the Week on Dec. 11, after setting a new school record in the preliminaries for the 60-meter hurdles at the Bison Opener. He ran a time of 8.34 seconds, surpassing his own record of 8.36, set last season. MacLeod placed third out of 29 athletes in the prelim for the event.
- Anthony was named the league's Field Athlete of the Week on Dec. 11, after winning two events at the Bison Opener, posting IC4A-qualifying marks in each. He took first in the long jump (23 feet, 2 ¾ inches) and went on to win the triple jump (21-6 ¼). This is the second-consecutive season that Anthony has won both events at the Bison Opener.
- On Dec. 1, Anthony earned Damon's Bison Athlete of the Week honors for his performance at the Bison Opener.
Looking Ahead
- Following this weekend's meet, Bucknell will host the Bison Open and Multi, Jan. 25 - 26. Bucknell will also send athletes to the Penn State National Invitational the weekend of Jan. 25 -26. The Bison will then travel to Akron, Ohio, on Feb. 2, for the Akron Open before returning home for the Bucknell Winter Classic on Feb. 9.
- Bucknell will host the 2008 Patriot League Indoor Track and Field Championships, Feb. 22 - 24. The IC4A Championships are set for March 1 - 2 in Boston, Mass., and the NCAA Championships are scheduled for March 14 - 15 in Fayetteville, Ark.
