Bucknell Men's Track And Field Sends Athletes To PSU National Invitational And Bison Open And Multi This Weekend

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell men's and women's track and field teams will have athletes competing at both the Bison Open and Multi in Lewisburg, Pa., and at the Penn State National Invitational in University Park, Pa. this weekend, Jan. 25 - 26.

Bucknell will welcome 19 visiting teams to Gerhard Fieldhouse for the Bison Open and Multi. On Friday, field events will begin at 3:30 p.m., the pentathlon/heptathlon will start at 4 p.m. and running events are scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, field events will begin at 10 a.m. and running events are set to start at 10:15 a.m.

"We will split our squads between a high caliber meet at Penn State and the Bison Open," said Bucknell head coach Kevin Donner. "We will be focusing on improving our performances to set up our athletes for the Patriot League Championship as well as try to qualify more people for IC4A's and ECAC's."

At the Bucknell Heptagonal on Jan. 19 -
- The Bison took first, topping five visiting teams, winning five events and posting three IC4A-qualifying marks. Bucknell compiled 171 points ahead of second-place Saint Francis (Pa.) (94 points), third-place Lehigh (83), fourth-place Duquesne (77), fifth-place Shippensburg (67) and sixth-place East Stroudsburg (64).
- Junior Kerry Boyle (Hazleton, Pa./Hazleton) won the 400-meter dash, running an IC4A-qualifying time of 48.90. Boyle went on to lead the Bison in the 200-meter dash, placing fourth with a time of 22.53.
- Sophomore Kyle Anthony (Barryville, N.Y./Eldred Central) picked up a first-place finish for the Bison in the long jump. He posted an IC4A standard of 23-1 ¼. Anthony had already qualified for IC4A's in the event with his mark of 23-2 ¾ set at the Bison Opener. Anthony went on to post the top finish for Bucknell in the triple jump. He placed second with a mark of 46-7 ¼.
- Senior Wallace Campbell (Montgomery, Ala./Montgomery Acad.) won the mile, clocking a time of 4:14.73. He went on to win the 3,000-meter run as well, clocking in at 8:37.17.
- In the 500-meter run, senior Brian Mooney (Rochester, NY/Gates-Chili) took first with a time of 1:07.70.
- Sophomore Timothy Medlock (Evan Mills, N.Y./Indian River) posted an IC4A-qualifying distance of 52-3 ¾ in the shot put to mark the second-best throw in Bucknell history. He placed second in the event.
- Freshman Drew Fitzgerald (Ballston Spa, Pa./Ballston Spa) led Bucknell in the high jump, with a season best of 6-6 ¾ for third place and the eighth-highest mark in Bucknell history.

In the Rankings -
- The Bucknell men's track and field team was picked third in the Patriot League's preseason poll, announced Dec. 6. The Bison tallied 70 points to place third, following Army (10 first-place votes) and Navy (six first-place votes), who tied for first with 90 points. Rounding out the list was American in fourth (64 points), Lehigh in fifth (47 points), Lafayette in sixth (43 points), Colgate in seventh (28 points) and Holy Cross in eighth (16 points). The Bison men will look capture their first indoor league title since 2003, returning Anthony, the 2007 Patriot League Championship Rookie of the Meet and a First-Team All-Patriot League performer last season.

2007-08 Honors -
- Macleod was named Patriot League Track Athlete of the Week on Dec. 11, after setting a new school record in the preliminaries for the 60-meter hurdles at the Bison Opener. He ran a time of 8.34 seconds, surpassing his own record of 8.36, set last season. MacLeod placed third out of 29 athletes in the prelim for the event.
- Anthony was named the league's Field Athlete of the Week on Dec. 11, after winning two events at the Bison Opener, posting IC4A-qualifying marks in each. He took first in the long jump (23 feet, 2 ¾ inches) and went on to win the triple jump (21-6 ¼). This is the second-consecutive season that Anthony has won both events at the Bison Opener.
- On Dec. 1, Anthony earned Damon's Bison Athlete of the Week honors for his performance at the Bison Opener.

Looking Ahead -
- The Bison will then travel to Akron, Ohio, on Feb. 2, for the Akron Open before returning home for the Bucknell Winter Classic on Feb. 9.
- Bucknell will host the 2008 Patriot League Indoor Track and Field Championships, Feb. 22 - 24. The IC4A Championships are set for March 1 - 2 in Boston, Mass., and the NCAA Championships are scheduled for March 14 - 15 in Fayetteville, Ark.
