Bucknell Indoor Track and Field Teams Set To Compete for PL Titles
Feb. 21, 2003 LEWISBURG, Pa. - As the 2003 indoor track & field season comes to a close, Bucknell will try to claim a pair of conference titles at the Patriot League Indoor Track & Field Championships at Colgate University this weekend. The women will aim to repeat as league champs, and capture their fifth league crown in the past six years, while the men will try to knock Army off the throne. The three-day event begins today and runs through Sunday, Feb. 23, in Colgate's Sanford Fieldhouse. In the Patriot League's preseason poll, the Bison men and women were both selected to finish second behind Army. The Bison have competed in eight meets this season to prepare for this weekend's meet. The Bison have many outstanding competitors that will look to lead the women to victory. Student-athletes to watch in the short sprints include Tolulope Fayanjuola, Jamie Lilien, Kiley MacDonald, and Edwina Bourn. The 200 and 400-meter events will highlight the talents of Charity Brady, Amy Calvo, Monique Boley and Rehana Lanewala. Calvo and Nicki Piper look to earn high honors in the 500-meter for the women, while Jen Marsh, Theresa Dennis and Jamie Gow will provide depth in the distance events. Maria Garcia, Elizabeth Pendelton and Angie McFarland will headline Bucknell's throwing competition in the weight throw and the shot put. Abigail Bouzan-Kaloustian will look to reach new heights in the pole vault, while Fayanjuola, Dionne Bonds and Lilien will try to obtain more points for the Bison in the jumps. On the men's side, Darrel Perry and Richard Alexander will try to post winning times in the 55-high hurdles. Standout Noel Powell will contend in the 200-meter dash, along with Ryan Newberger and Matt Solomon. Newberger, Brian Klotz and Aaron Hanlon will run the mid-distance races. Bryan Johnston and Eric Furst, along with Jesse Graytock, Doug Creveling, and Andrew Dinsmore, aim to place high in the distance events for the Bison. Powell will look to continue his record-breaking streak in the long jump, while Jeff Arek and Adam Jacob will compete in the pole vault. Senior Adam Kaufman will look for distance in the weight throw in his final indoor championship appearance. Both the men's and the women's relay teams have competed well this season and should be among the top finishers at the championships.
