Bison Men's Track & Field Prepares for Battle at the 2006 Patriot League Championships
May 4, 2006 2006 Outdoor Patriot League Championship Schedule of Events LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell men's track and field team is ready to compete at the 2006 Patriot League Outdoor Championships, set to begin on Friday, at the Hart Center Track Complex in Worcester, Mass. The Bison are hungry to score points and eager to build-up from last season's sixth-place finish. With the Championships lasting two days and concluding on Saturday evening, competition is set to begin Friday afternoon at 1:15 for the men, beginning with the decathlon 100-meter dash. The top six scorers in each event will receive points in increments of 10 for first, eight for second, six for third, four for fourth, two for fifth and one point for sixth place. The only returning Bucknell sprinter to score at last year's meet with a sixth-place finish in the 200-meter dash was senior Matt Corbetta (Port Chester, N.Y./Port Chester). Joining Corbetta in the 200 will be sophomore Matt Johnson (Newburgh, N.Y./Marlboro Central) and freshman Kerry Boyle (Hazleton, Pa./Hazleton). Johnson is the Bison's lone scoring hopeful in the 100, while Boyle is predicted to finish among the league's top three in the 400. Junior Mark Caroleo (North Babylon, N.Y./North Babylon) serves as the Orange and Blue's strongest competitor in the 800 and the 1500, while classmate Matt Forys (Howell, N.J./Howell) and sophomore Wallace Campbell (Montgomery, Ala./Montgomery Acad.) will be representing the Bison in the 5000. Forys' also should be a threat in the 3000 steeplechase, as his season's best time of 9 minutes, 9.72 seconds, currently ranks second in Patriot League standings. Emerging as a frontrunner in the 400-intermediate hurdles is Boyle, recently claiming a sixth-place spot in the Bucknell record books with a time of 55.18. Junior John MacFeeters (Haddon Field, N.J./Large) will lead the brigade of hurdlers in the 110-highs. Senior Ryan Whitfield (LaGrange, Ga./LaGrange) and junior Samuel Andrews (Philadelphia, Pa./Germantown Acad.) will join him in the chase.
Freshman Kevin Macleod (East Longmeadow, Mass./East Longmeadow), who battled injury earlier in the season, could also see action in both sprinting and in hurdle events. Participating in the high jump will be rookie Ryan Robinson (Bloomsburg, Pa./Bloomsburg). Robinson's best jump of the season of 6 feet, 6 3/4 inches, currently sits as the sixth-best jump in the Patriot League rankings for 2006. Scoring in last year's long jump was sophomore Michael Contino (Broomall, Pa./Episcopal Acad.), with a third-place leap of 21-4 1/4. Junior Tyler Palumbo (Wyckoff, N.J./Don Bosco) finished fifth (21-2) and Johnson rounded-out the scorers in sixth place (21 1/2). Senior Thomas Bennett (Baltimore, Md./Friends School) serves as the Bison's lone returning scorer in the triple jump, placing fourth with a leap of 44. Sophomore David Mante (Warwick, N.Y./Warwick Valley) should be one of the top competitors in the pole vault this weekend, as junior Josh Kaehler (Hanover, Pa./South Western) will be in a battle for Patriot League gold in the javelin. In the shot put, discus and hammer, senior Dan Frake (Northport, N.Y./Northport), junior Tyler Hoffman (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg) and sophomore James Meyer (Pacific Palisades, Calif./Pacific Palisades) will be Bucknell's hopefuls to not only score but to medal as well in each of the three events. Finally, in the multi-event category, junior Kyle McLaughlin (Poolesville, Md./Poolesville) is predicted to finish in the middle of the scoring pack. McLaughlin enters the decathlon ranking fifth on the 2006 Patriot League performance list with a score of 4858. The decathlon 400 is set to wrap-up Friday action. On Saturday, the men's competition opens with the decathlon 110-high hurdles, scheduled for 9 a.m., and concludes with the 4x400-relay. The Patriot League Awards ceremony is planned for 6:40 p.m., following the conclusion of the women's 4x400.
