May 5, 2005
LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bison men's track and field team is set to compete at the Patriot League Championships, hosted by Lafayette College in Easton, Pa., on May 6-7. The Bison will try to match last year's third-place finish and improve upon their sixth-place showing at this year's PL Indoor Championships. Army is the team to beat, as usual, boasting an unbelievable 13-straight conference titles. Sophomore Matt Forys will lead the Bison in the distance events, as Bucknell's top entrant in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Junior Kevin Brown is also ranked in the top ten in the event. Forys and teammates Dan Lounsbury and Sean McCarthy have each posted a top ten mark in the 10,000-meters. All three Bison have also met the IC4A qualifying standard in the event. Junior Dan Frake will likely be one of Bucknell's top throwers as he is ranked in the top ten PL performances in the shot put, discus and hammer. Frake's strongest event is the hammer, where he will compete as the event's third seed. Josh Kaehler will look to provide some Bison points in the javelin, as Bucknell's top athlete in the event and the owner of the sixth-best mark in the PL.
The Bison are poised to score in the jumping events as freshman Mike Contino owns the fourth-rated mark in the long jump. Andre Campbell and Tyler Palumbo will look to provide scoring finishes in the triple jump. Contino and Palumbo were both scorers in the PL long jump indoors. Senior Drew Folk will try and cap off his Bison career with a scoring performance in the high jump. The Bison will have a tough task ahead of the them in the middle distances races, with American, Army, and Navy looking to dominate the events. Mark Caroleo will be the Bison's top hope in the event area, posting the best time by a Bison in both the 800- and 1,500-meters. Koran Evans and Adam Syty have recorded some of Bucknell's top 800 times this season and will look to have strong performances at the championships. Sophomore Derrin Pierret has also been one of the top Bison middle distance runners this season. The sprints will also be a test for the orange and blue as junior Matt Corbetta is the only Bison to notch a top ten time. Corbetta owns the best time by a Bison in the 200-meters this season, and the second-fastest time in the 100-meter dash. Freshman Matt Johnson has also recorded some of the best Bucknell marks this season. The Bison will also look to the relay events for much needed points, with top five seed times in both the 4x100- and 4x800-meter relays. The meet will be televised for the first time ever, as CSTV will broadcast a 90-minute highlight package from May 12-14 and 17-20. The broadcast schedule is as follows: CSTV Broadcast Schedule
