Bucknell Track And Field Picks Up Three Patriot League Weekly Awards

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell track and field team was honored with three of the first Patriot League weekly awards for the 2007-08 indoor season, the league announced Tuesday. Junior Kevin Macleod (East Longmeadow, Mass./East Longmeadow) earned Patriot League Track Athlete of the Week honors and sophomore Kyle Anthony (Barryville, N.Y./Eldred Central) was named Field Athlete of the Week for the men, while freshman Rebecca Frey (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) captured Rookie of the Week honors for the women. In the first meet of the season, the Bison Opener on Dec. 1, MacLeod set a new school record in the preliminaries for the 60-meter hurdles. He ran a time of 8.34 seconds, surpassing his own record of 8.36, set last season. MacLoed placed third out of 29 athletes in the prelim for the event.
Anthony won two events at the Bison Opener, posting IC4A-qualifying marks in each. He took first in the long jump (23 feet, 2 ¾ inches) and went on to win the triple jump (48-3/4) This is the second-consecutive season that Anthony has won both events at the Bison Opener. Additionally, Anthony earned Damon's Bison Athlete of the Week honors on Dec. 4, for his performance on Dec. 1. In her first collegiate meet, Frey placed second overall and posted the highest mark of collegiate competitors at the Bison Opener in the pole vault. She notched an ECAC-qualifying mark of 11-9 ¾, to place herself fourth on Bucknell's top-10 list for the event.
The Bucknell track and field teams are now set to prepare for the Gulden Relays on Jan. 12, in Lewisburg, Pa.
