Extra-Man Attack Helps Bucknell Men's Water Polo Open Bison Invitational with 18-12 Win Over MIT
Sept. 29, 2012
LEWISBURG, Pa. -Jack Else and Stefan Aleksic score four goals apiece and Bucknell converted 7 of 9 six-on-five chances as it opened the Bison Invitational with an 18-12 win over MIT Saturday afternoon at Kinney Natatorium. The Bison never trailed in the contest and led by as many as nine goals as they snapped a five-game losing streak.
Bucknell (5-8), which plays Toronto at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, got out of the blocks fast, scoring five of the contest's six goals. Alex Nowlin, who tallied two goals and five assists in the game, had a hand in four of those first-quarter scores (1g, 3a). Else posted two goals and an assist in the first quarter.
The Bison were especially efficient in man-up situations as they converted seven of their first eight chances and Aleksic also connected on a five-meter penalty shot in the third quarter that put Bucknell up 12-5, its largest lead up to that point. Aleksic scored three other times in six-on-five scenarios, while Else added a pair of man-up goals.
MIT (4-7) had just five extra-man chances and scored on three of those.
Six different Bison combined on the 18-goal output, Bucknell's highest scoring game since beating Fordham 20-8 on Sept. 9. In addition to Else (4), Aleksic (4) and Nowlin (2), Julian Colina (3), Mike Kimble (3) and Nick Hale (2) posted multi-goal outings.
Goalie Matt Napleton was not called upon to make a lot of saves, but ended up stopping seven shots, boosting his season total to 107. He also registered two of Bucknell's 11 steals.
Kale Rogers led the Engineers with four goals as he tallied one in each quarter.
