LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The Bucknell men's water polo team, ranked 17th in the country, trailed defending national champion and third-ranked USC by just a 6-2 margin at halftime, but the defense could not contain the powerful Trojans in the second half as they downed the Bison by a 14-3 score Sunday.

After falling behind 2-0 in the first quarter, Bucknell stormed back to score two second-quarter goals and entered halftime trailing by just a 6-2 margin. However, the defense that had been sparkling in the first half allowed seven second-half goals to the defending national champions.

Goalie Trevor Mullins was the best player in the water for the Bison as he equaled his season high with 11 saves.

Elliot Benoist, Sean Robinson and Kyle Roslyn each scored individual goals to account for Bucknell's offensive output. Benoist and Roslyn also recorded assists.

"Our defense was great, especially in the first half," said Bucknell head coach John Zeigler. "It was a great experience to play the defending national champion and it will only help us down the road."

The Bison return to the East coast next weekend for league games against Salem International on Friday, Oct. 15, and versus Navy and Princeton on Saturday, Oct. 16. All three games will take place in Annapolis, Md.
