Bison Men's Water Polo Cannot Hold Late Lead, Drop 11-10 Decision to Cal-Baptist

RIVERSIDE, Calif. - Cal-Baptist utility player Kevin Callister scored two of his game-high four goals in the final two minutes, completing a second-half comeback for the 19th-ranked Lancers in men's water polo action on Monday, October 13. The Bison led by as many as four before CBU pulled off the 11-10 come-from-behind victory. Bucknell led 6-2 late in the second quarter before the Lancers started their comeback. The Bison were held scoreless in the third quarter, while the host team cut it to a 6-5 game. A total of 10 goals were scored in the final period with four ties, before Cal-Baptist finally got the game-winner with just 44 seconds remaining in the contest. The Orange and Blue broke a 6-6 tie by scoring two unanswered goals for an 8-6 lead with 5:02 to play. The Lancers came right back with two of their own to tie it 8-8 with just under four minutes to go. Junior utility Elliot Benoist gave the Bison the lead back at 9-8 with 3:09 to play, but California Baptist again responded with a score from Matt Moore with 2:33 left. For the third time in the quarter, the Orange and Blue retook the lead, this time on a goal by sophomore utility Bradley Roslyn on a 6-on-5 opportunity, at 10-9 with 1:55 to play. That would be the final time Bucknell would score. Callister scored from two-meters with 1:37 left to tie it 10-10, before his game-winner came with 44 ticks left on the clock. Bucknell falls to 4-15 overall. The Bison went 1-4 on their West Coast swing, losing the four games by a combined five goals. The Orange and Blue compete next at the Inter-regional competition in the Southern Division at Princeton on October 18-19. BU faces Slippery Rock at 9:40 a.m. on October 18 in its first game. Cal-Baptist is 7-12 overall.
