Oct. 14, 2005
ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The No. 17-ranked Bucknell men's water polo team jumped out to a 4-0 first-half lead against No. 13 Navy, but could not pull off the upset as the Midshipmen scored the final five goals of the game for a 5-4 win in MacDonough Hall Friday night. The Bison led 4-0 in the second quarter, and 4-1 at halftime, but could not hold off Navy, which tied the game at 4-4 with 2:59 left in the fourth quarter. The Mids, who are 16-6 overall and stand first in the CWPA Southern Division with an 8-1 mark, scored the game-winner with just 36 ticks left on the clock. Andrew Plumb, who has 26 goals this season, tallied the winning score for Navy. Outside of jumping out to such a big lead, the highlight of the night for Bucknell was the play of goalkeeper Trevor Mullins (Orinda, Calif./Palo Alto). Four different players scored goals for the Bison as Gabriel Heiber (Aventura, Fla../Miami Beach), Jason Rechel (Columbus, Ohio/Thomas Worthington), Josh Sunday (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) and Kyle Roslyn (Philadelphia, Pa./William Penn Charter) each netted single goals. Heiber, Roslyn, Brad Roslyn (Philadelphia, Pa./William Penn Charter) and Mark Masterson (Kihei, Hawaii/Marin) each contributed assists. The Bucknell offense was just 0-for-3 on six-on-five opportunities. Bucknell, which climbed to 17th in the latest national rankings, fell to 8-14 this year. It also fell to 4-3 in CWPA Southern Division play. Two of those league losses have come to Navy as the Mids upended the Bison 11-6 at Kinney Natatorium earlier this fall.
