Bison Men's Water Polo Opens Inter-regional Competition with 9-7 Win Over Slippery Rock

PRINCETON, N.J. - The Bucknell men's water polo team got its weekend off on the right note, opening Southern Division Inter-regional competition with a 9-7 win over Slippery Rock on Saturday, October 18. The event is taking place at Princeton University all weekend.

BU opened up the first quarter with a 4-2 lead over the Rock, before falling in a 5-4 deficit at halftime. The Orange and Blue returned from the intermission to shutout Slippery Rock while building a 7-5 advantage. Both teams scored twice in the final frame for the 9-7 final.

Leading the way offensively was junior Aaron Platshon with three goals and one assist. Junior Elliot Benoist also chipped in four points, scoring twice and assisting on two other goals. Classmate Jay Danforth scored multiple times, as well, tallying two times. The Bison also got scores from junior Nick Ferring and sophomore Lars Weborg.

Sophomore Trevor Mullins was in net for Bucknell, recording five saves.

Bucknell improves to 5-15 overall after defeating Slippery Rock for the second time this season. The Bison will take on Johns Hopkins, the sixth-ranked team in Division III, at 1:10 p.m. on Saturday.
