Bison Men's Water Polo Drops 8-7 Heartbreaker to Johns Hopkins

PRINCETON, N.J. - Playing for first place in its bracket, the Bucknell men's water polo team dropped a heartbreaking 8-7 overtime decision to Johns Hopkins at the Southern Division Inter-regional competition on Saturday, October 18. Johns Hopkins is ranked sixth in the latest Division III poll.

After playing to a 2-2 tie at the end of one quarter, Johns Hopkins took a 3-2 lead into halftime. The Orange and Blue came back to win the third, 3-2, and tie the game 5-5 going into the fourth. Both team's scored twice in the final frame of regulation to force the overtime sessions. Johns Hopkins got the better of the extra time, scoring once and holding on for the 8-7 win.

Juniors Jay Danforth and Elliot Benoist both scored twice in the game, while classmates Aaron Platshon and Nick Ferring, and sophomore Bradley Roslyn tallied once.

Sophomore Trevor Mullins made three stops in goal for Bucknell.

The Bison are 5-16 overall and 1-5 in Southern Division action. Bucknell faces Gannon at 8:10 p.m. for a chance to play in the fifth-place game on Sunday afternoon.
