ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Bucknell men's water polo team went 1-1 in its first day of action for the 2000 season. The Bison are competing at the Navy Invitational, held in Annapolis, Md., on Saturday and Sunday, September 2-3.

The Orange and Blue got the season started this morning, facing Iona in the first round of competition. Bucknell struggled to produce offensively and fell to the Gaels, 16-2. Senior Tate Greditzer (St. Louis, Mo./John Burroughs) scored both of Bucknell's goals, converting on four attempts. Junior goalie David Kennedy (St. Louis, Mo./St. Louis Country Day School) made seven saves in the contest.

In the second game of the day, the Bison evened their record at 1-1 with a 10-3 victory over the Merchant Marine Academy. Greditzer had a strong game, finishing with three goals, three steals and two assists. Senior James Miante (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) added to the offensive output, scoring two goals and handing out four assists, while junior Ryan McCarty (St. Louis, Mo./St. Louis Country Day School) chipped in with two goals and two steals. Kennedy was solid in the net, making 17 saves through three and a half quarters of work.

The Bison (1-1) will face the winner of the Salem-Teikyo/Slippery Rock game at 11:15 a.m., Sunday, September 3.
