LEWISBURG, Pa. - Junior Elliot Benoist and sophomore Bradley Roslyn both scored once and assisted on two other goals, but the offensive effort was not enough as the Bucknell men's water polo team fell to 11th-ranked Princeton, 11-6, in the Southern Division Championship on Saturday, November 1. The Bison, playing for a chance to advance to the championship game, allowed the Tigers five goals in a deciding second quarter on the way to the loss.

The score stood at 2-1 after one quarter after Roslyn's score with 3:42 left in the opener. Princeton came out with a vengeance in the second, scoring five unanswered to build a 7-1 lead that the Orange and Blue would struggle to overcome. Senior Scott Afzal, playing at home for the final time this weekend, finally stopped the bleeding with a man-up goal just six seconds before the intermission to get BU within five, 7-2.

Princeton's John Stover gave the Tiger's another six-goal lead just 37 seconds into the third quarter, but the Bison offense came charging back with three unanswered of their own. Junior Jay Danforth scored in an extra-man situation, and junior Aaron Platshon followed with a nifty one-touch goal two minutes later. Benoist was the set-up man on both goals.

Junior Nick Ferring got it to a three-goal game with his only tally of the game at 3:15, but Princeton put one in on a fast break 1:36 before the end of the quarter to go back ahead, 9-5.

The Tigers did a good job of forcing Bucknell deep into the shot clock, and took advantage of the transition game, scoring two in transition in the fourth to go up 11-5. Benoist would score on a pass from Roslyn with 2:50 left, but that was all the offense either team would provide.

Sophomore Trevor Mullins was solid in net for Bucknell, making eight saves. Princeton's Peter Sabbatini stopped eight shots for the Tigers as well.

The Bison fall to 8-18 overall. BU will face George Washington in the third-place game at 10:50 a.m. on Sunday, November 2. Princeton improves to 20-3 overall. The Tigers advance to the championship game at 12:00 p.m. against top-seeded Navy.
