ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Bucknell men's water polo team secured itself a place in the Eastern Championships at Brown on November 18-19 with victories over Grove City and Salem International on Saturday, November 4, at the Southern Division Championships, being held at Navy.

The Bison wasted little time against Grove City, building a 5-1 lead after one quarter of play. The Orange and Blue held the Wolverines scoreless for the rest of the game, going on to a 14-1 victory in their first game of the day. Senior James Miante (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) led the way for the Bison, scoring three goals, assisting on one, stealing the ball four times and drawing one ejection. Classmate Kevin Permisohn (Silver Spring, Md./Springbrook) had three goals for BU, while also assisting on one and grabbing three steals.

The game against Salem International was a little closer than that against Grove City. With a berth in the Eastern Championships on the line, Bucknell held on for an 8-6 victory over the Tigers. Junior Ryan McCarty (St. Louis, Mo./St. Louis Country Day School) fueled the offense, scoring four goals for BU. Junior goalkeeper Dave Kennedy (St. Louis, Mo./St. Louis Country Day School) made nine saves in the contest, while also handing out two assists.

Bucknell moves on to play Navy on Sunday, November 5.
