LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell men's water polo team placed four student-athletes on the American Water Polo Coaches Association All-Academic team for the 2001 season. The association acknowledges all water polo players who achieved a grade point average within the range of 3.2 - 4.0, on a 4.0 scale, during the fall semester and who were starters or significant reserves.

In addition, the association recognizes those institutions whose combined team GPA is over 2.75. Bucknell was honored as one of the top 10 teams with a cumulative GPA of 2.82, giving the school the eighth highest average.

Two Bucknell players from head coach John Zeigler's squad were listed under the category of "Superior Achievement," having established a GPA between 3.41 and 3.70. Freshman Sam Sullivan earned his superior honor with a 3.66 during his first semester. Senior co-captain Ryan McCarty (St. Louis, Mo./St. Louis Country Day School) earned a spot on the list with his 3.43 in Biology.

Two other Bison were listed in the "Excellent Achievement" category with a GPA in the range of 3.2 - 3.4. Sophomore Jamie Saettele (St. Louis, Mo./Ladue Horton Watkins) headlined this duo, posting a 3.36 grade point average and landing on the team for the second-consecutive year. Joining Saettele in the excellent group is freshman Paul Yerkes (Orlando, Fla./Winter Park). Yerkes worked his way onto the squad with a 3.33 first semester average.
