Bison Men's Water Polo Team and Players Receive Academic Honors
April 5, 2004 LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell men's water polo team placed three student-athletes on the American Water Polo Coaches Association All-Academic team for the 2003 season. The association acknowledges all water polo players who achieved a grade point average within the range of 3.2 - 4.0, on a 4.0 scale, during the fall semester and who were starters or significant reserves. In addition, the association recognizes those institutions whose combined team GPA is over 2.75. Bucknell was honored as one of the top-20 teams with a cumulative GPA of 3.04, giving the school the 11th-highest average. All three Bucknell players from head coach John Zeigler's squad were listed under the category of "Excellent Achievement," having established a GPA between 3.20 and 3.40. Freshman Michael McManigal (Santa Barbara, Calif./Santa Barbara) just missed a Superior ranking with a 3.40 during his first semester. Joining McManigal in the excellent group were sophomores Trevor Mullins (Orinda, Calif./Miramonte) and Mark Stevenosky (Seltzer, Pa./Pottsville). Mullins makes his first appearance on the squad with a 3.33 first-semester GPA, while Stevenosky posted a 3.22.
Bucknell finished its 2003 season with a 10-20 overall record. The Bison were 2-6 in the Collegiate Water Polo Association's Southern Division and finished third at the conference tournament.
