Rechel, Roslyn Named Bucknell Men's Water Polo Captains
May 22, 2007 LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell head men's water polo coach John Zeigler announced Tuesday that seniors Jason Rechel (Columbus, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) and Kyle Roslyn (Philadelphia, Pa./William Penn Charter) have been elected captains for the 2007 season. Both Rechel and Roslyn were key members of a Bison squad that finished 2006 ranked 18th nationally with a 15-13 record against a demanding schedule that featured 15 ranked foes. Rechel was a CWPA All-Southern Division Second Team choice this past fall when he finished second on the team to Mark Masterson (Kihei, Hawaii/Marin) in goals (45) and points (80). The driver paced the team with 35 assists as he tallied career highs in every offensive category and finished the season with 163 points, the most of any Bison entering the 2007 campaign. Rechel had a strong postseason as he helped Bucknell to its second consecutive fourth-place finish at the competitive Eastern Championship last November. He registered six goals, four assists and one steal en route to being named to the All-Eastern Championship Second Team. Rechel, who posted a career-high eight points during a 14-11 victory over Johns Hopkins last September, was second to Masterson with a career-high 38 steals last fall. He also recorded 31 ejections drawn, just two less than team leader Gabriel Heiber (Aventura, Fla./Miami Beach). Additionally, Rechel served as Bucknell's top sprinter, winning 48 of his 102 chances. "Jason has always had a strong work ethic and has excelled in a number of roles, which helped lead to his unanimous selection as co-captain," praised Zeigler. "He has exhibited leadership in and out of the pool and has a strong commitment to getting better. He serves as a constant inspiration for his teammates."
The younger brother of 2005 tri-captain Brad Roslyn, Kyle Roslyn contributed 36 steals and 24 ejections drawn last year, both among the best on the team. The best game of the year for Roslyn was also against Johns Hopkins as he accumulated three goals and four assists for a career-high seven points during a 13-12 victory over the Blue Jays. "Kyle has been a significant contributor since his first season," commented Zeigler. "He brings lighthearted humor, fierce intensity and the desire to win every day. He uses his personality to understand how others work and he pushes them to get better." Rechel and Roslyn are just two of Bucknell's 14 returning letterwinners slated to be on the 2007 roster. A strong five-person recruiting class is expected to join the veterans in the fall when the Bison open up their 31st season.
