Bucknell Men's Water Polo Senior, Ryan McCarty, Named Collegiate Water Polo Association Player of the Week
Nov. 7, 2001 LEWISBURG, Pa. - Senior men's water polo co-captain, Ryan McCarty (St. Louis, Mo./St. Louis Country Day School), has been named the Collegiate Water Polo Association Player of the Week for the week ending November 5. McCarty led his squad to a 3-1 weekend at the Southern Division Championship of the CWPA, helping the team earn third place at the event. The 2-meter player scored a combined 17 goals in four games for Bucknell, including a career-high seven-goal performance in an 11-9 win over Johns Hopkins to claim the bronze. McCarty started the weekend with five scores in Bucknell's 12-6 win over George Washington, in addition to recording two steals. The offensive leader on the squad with 65 points on 50 goals and 15 assists this season was quiet in the Bison victory against Washington & Jefferson, scoring once and assisting on one goal. He broke out in the final two games of the weekend, however, tallying 11 of BU's 17 goals in the two games. In the 8-6 loss to Navy, the 12th-ranked team in the country, McCarty scored four times and added an assist in the contest. The senior followed with his seven goals and one assist against Johns Hopkins, the second-ranked team in the latest Division III national poll. For his career, McCarty has 174 goals and needs just ten more to enter the Bucknell all-time top-ten list.
The Bison are 12-15 overall and are in competition next at the Eastern Championship, held at Princeton University on Saturday and Sunday, November 17-18. The Orange and Blue will open play against St. Francis (N.Y.) at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday.
