Former Bucknell Men's Water Polo Star Scott Schulte to be Inducted into CWPA Hall of Fame Friday
Nov. 9, 2006 LEWISBURG, Pa. - Former Bucknell men's water polo standout Scott Schulte '81 will be inducted into the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Hall of Fame on Friday evening during the CWPA's awards dinner which kicks off this weekend's Eastern Championship at Princeton. An All-East water polo selection four straight years (1977-80), Scott Schulte led Bucknell to four Eastern Championships and set an all-time NCAA water polo career scoring record with 586 goals. He holds Bucknell records for goals and points in a season and is second on the single-season assist list, while his career goal, assist and point totals all rank first in the Bison record books. The high scorer in four straight NCAA Tournaments (the only player to accomplish this feat) and holder of the career record of 50 goals in NCAA Championships, Schulte played on Bucknell teams that had a combined record of 114-15-3, and he was a Second Team All-American in 1979 and 1980. He was the only player outside of California selected to those All-America squads. Schulte was twice selected to the AAU All-America First Team in water polo, and seven times in his career finished in the top six of an East Coast Conference Swimming Championship event. He won Bucknell's Christy Mathewson Award, which recognizes the top athlete in the senior class, in 1981. A member of the U.S. National Team from 1980-84, Schulte was a First Team Indoor All-American from 1981-85, was Most Valuable Player at the Indoor Nationals in 1981 and 1984, and competed in the World University Games in 1981. He was inducted into the Bucknell Athletics Hall of Fame in 1986. Bucknell's annual water polo MVP award is named in his honor. Schulte is the third person with ties to Bucknell enshrined in the CWPA Hall of Fame, which began in 2002. Former Bison coaches Dick Russell, who was inducted in 2002, and Lynn Kachmarik, who was enshrined the following year, are also in the Hall of Fame. Russell was coach of the men's water polo squad at Bucknell from 1977 to 1986 and headed the men's swimming and diving program from 1968 to 1994. He is the winningest coach in the history of both programs. Kachmarik held the position of head coach for Bucknell's men's and women's water polo and men's and women's swimming and diving teams during her long tenure in Lewisburg. She totaled 218 victories across the four sports. Scott Schulte's Career Statistics
